From the narrow roads of Brava Island to the busy highways of the United States of America

Pawtucket City, January 2, 2025 (Bravanews) - Andreia Rosário was born in 1989 on Brava Island, one of the most peaceful and isolated corners of Cape Verde. Her childhood was marked by the simplicity of the island's highways, where walks along small dirt roads and paved paths were her greatest contact with the world outside her home. But young Andréia always had a distant gaze, beyond the hills that surrounded her home, dreaming of the future and the vast possibilities that the world could offer.

In 2012, at the age of 23, Andréia decided to embark on a journey that would change her life. With a courage that few could understand, she moved to the United States, a country known for both hardship and endless opportunities. What she didn’t know at the time was that this move would take her on an unexpected but profoundly transformative path.

She told Bravanews that upon arriving in the country, the American reality presented challenges that were very different from her life on Brava Island. The distance from her family, the cultural barriers and the need to adapt to the new environment made her go through moments of uncertainty. However, Andréia never let herself be shaken. Instead, she saw each obstacle as an opportunity to grow.

It was in 2018 that she had the chance to fulfill one of her biggest dreams: becoming a truck driver. Inspired by the truck drivers she saw traveling the American highways, Andréia saw the profession not only as a job opportunity, but also as a way to gain independence and explore the United States in a way that few would have the chance to do. She then decided that she would invest in training as a Truck Driver, a bold step, but one that proved to be a turning point in her career.

After much effort and dedication, Andréia finally obtained her license to drive large trucks on the country's busy highways. In her words, "it wasn't easy, but every kilometer I traveled made me believe even more that any dream is possible, as long as you're willing to fight for it." Since then, she has dedicated herself body and soul to her profession, working on the immense highways of the United States, transporting cargo and traveling through different states.

Today, Andréia do Rosário is an example of hard work and perseverance. Looking back, she feels immensely grateful for having followed her dreams and for having found happiness in the work she chose. For her, the road is not just a paved path, but a metaphor for life’s journey: full of challenges, but also immense possibilities. “Life is like a road. If we believe it is possible, we will always reach our destination,” says Andréia, with the certainty of someone who lives with purpose and passion.

With her eyes always on the horizon, she knows that there is still a long way to go and that the road never ends. For her, the dream continues, and will continue, guiding her wheels on the highways of the United States.
